ALTERNATE
BOM IN WINDCHILL
Alternative BOM’s represent
an alternative way of manufacturing a part.
- They include a list of all the parts and their quantities required to build the product or assembly using the same manufacturing part number as an existing BOM.
- For example - an alternate BOM may be needed to support the production of the same object in different manufacturing plants, or to take into account different BOM types (Production, Testing, and Costing).
Steps to Create
Alternate BOM:
- Navigate any BOM Part Structure which has all BOM data information
- Go to Actions à Open In à Open in Manufacturing Product Structure Explorer
Note: To Open Manufacturing Product structure explorer application it requires supportable
system Java
- The Manufacturing Product Structure Explorer is where parts are created and managed, and where BOM associations are made.
- The left-side navigation panes display manufacturing structures (such as process plans, Control Characteristics and Alternate BOM) in a tree table.
- Using the New Alternate BOM Action:1) Navigate to Menu Selected à New Alternate BOM2) Navigate to Alternate BOM Tab and click on New Alternate BOM button.
- This action allows you to create alternates within the same view and BOM type
- Select the Attribute values from the options specified
- While creating Alternate BOM the following attributes can be specified for Alternate BOM.
- BOM Type - Production, Testing , Costing (Optional)
- Alternate Number-001,002---- till 0010 (Required)
- Downstream View – Design , Manufacturing (Required)
- By default the hierarchy has two views, Design and Manufacturing (EBOM and MBOM).
- Downstream Location – The location where the Alternate BOM can be saved.
Note: While creating Alternate BOM it
tries to create a New Revision instance of the Main BOM Part (- version), so
the main BOM Part has to be in Revisable state ex: Released
- The Alternate BOM will be created with same number as the Existing BOM
- The Alternate BOM tab displays a list of alternate BOMs for an object. Alternate BOMs represent an alternative way of manufacturing a part.
- We can create Multiple Alternate BOMs on the existing BOM.
To Search/navigate to Alternate BOM Go to existing Main BOM
Structure part à History
- Alternate BOM will be having the Same BOM structure information as Main BOM.
- Changing the Alternate BOM structure (adding/ removing Child part) and changing the BOM attribute values (like Line number, quantity, Unit...etc.) doesn’t effect on the Main BOM.
Ex: Changing/ Altering the BOM structure doesn’t effect on
main BOM structure.
- Alternate BOM
- Main BOM
- Create Change Notice on the Alternate BOM to publish data to SAP through ESI using Distribution target and check the Status in the ESI logs.
Steps to Publish
the Alternate BOM:
- Navigate to Alternate BOM Information page then go to ActionsàNew àNew Change Notice
- Select the Change Notice type as “ECN - Released” and fill all the Attribute values then Click on “Next” Button
- A Default Change Task will be created, Select the Change Task type “Initial Release” and Click on “Next” Button
- Copy the objects from Affected Objects table:
- And Paste it in Resulting Object table, click on finish:
- Confirm the ECN submission by clicking “Submit Now” button:
- Navigate to Home page and click on Set up Participant task:
- Set up the participants for Checker and Engineer role: add the users to the following role by clicking “Add Participant’s” Icon
- Navigate to the details page and Click on “Complete Task” to submit the task.
- ECN-Checker role user will get Check Design Data task:
- Select the Appropriate Routing Option and Enter the Users Passowrd for Authentication, then Click on “Complete Task” button
- ECN-Engineer role user will get Engineering Review and Approval task:
- Select the Routing option and Enter the Users Passowrd for Authentication , then Click on “Complete Task” button
- Initial Release ECN Process completes. Successfully published to SAP:
- Check for the State of ECN & BOM objects and the publishing status in the Distribution target of the BOM part.
